Life is too short to drive boring cars. This channel will feature videos about the Fiat 124 Spider and other roadsters.

How To Change the Rear Differential Fluid on a Modern 124 Spider
Tim and I show you how to change the rear differential fluid on a 124 Spider. This is scheduled maintenance every 60,000 miles. You can go to a shop and dish out $100+ or you can do this simple procedure at home and save some money. (A local garage quoted me $189 when I called just to see what the going rate was.)

How to Install LED Headlights on a 124 Spider
Awesome info, thanks mate, had no idea I could get a more detailed manual, for free too!
How come you don’t explain enough if the car’s engine should be on?or say start the engine before you start showing the function of the remote device?
You can hear the engine running in the video.
I watched the six month update. I wish I had a garage or carport so I could do this. It seems like a great product for the price. I just don't have any place to let it cure.
As long as no rain is forecast, you should be fine; especially if you apply in the evening where the sun won't be beating down on it.
@@DropTopTees Thanks for tip(and the reply)!
I have fiat 124 spider 2018 have it for 10 months now I have all your change I wrote it back home. day and a half I didn't wrote it after that on my way to work start smoking very bad I thought it was on fire I stopped and call for A towing to take it to the dealer fear turbo can leak oil that's what they told me a screw got loose in the turbo and I start leaking that can be possible
Fiat turbo can leak oil
I really enjoy you vids. I do have one problem with my 2018 Abarth, which i just bought 2 weeks ago. With top up and driver side window up when i get out of car and shut the door the window automatically goes down half way. Any ideas? And where can i find your we site?
No idea. That is a new one on me :/ The tshirt site is droptoptees.myspreadshop.com/
Thanks for this tutorial. I was able to clean mine in about 15-20 minutes thanks to you!
You're welcome.
Have you ever changed the cabin filter in your spider? If not, do you know of any vids?
I have not done it yet. You might want to check for MX-5 videos, too. I bet the procedure is similar. You may also find instructions with pictures only on ameridan's blog: 21stcenturyfiat124spider.wordpress.com/author/c230/
Great video, subbed and liked…..I am in the process of shopping for a 124. Learning a lot from your videos. I just turned 69, retired, and am looking forward to having one of these beautiful cars. We are from LA, lower Alabama, but we go to Texas every other month, lots of family in the hill country……do you have any advise for what to look for when buying a 124?
If you want a manual, be patient and wait for one. Abarths are better stock, but if you are looking to mod the car, it is better to get a Classica or Lusso. The second half of the 2019 model year had a recall (the only recall these cars ever had) for a water pump or something like that. With any convertible, check out the top and make sure it has been taken care of; they are expensive to replace.
The cover around your touch screen monitor I need one what’s it called?
They are on Amazon but you don't need one. I've discovered they don't really block the sun from the screen.
Thank you for this I’ve been trying to figure out how to move my cup holder!!!
you're welcome
Really appreciate your videos. I dont have a spider yet but everytime i look up something about them you always pop up. I test drove one yesterday all the way out in weatherford. Im 6ft 240. Needless to say i felt huge in this car. Do you find it comfortable for longer drives?
We've taken ours on 9 day trips twice now. I don't mind at all. I'm an inch shorter than you and about the same weight. Obviously though, the personal comfort one feels is going to change, perhaps significantly from person to person. I love mine, even on long trips. Your experience may vary... PS: you will get used to the size feeling after you drive it every day. Our van feels like a mobile house now...lol.
I enjoyed your videos, but how come you never mentioned these fiats would have issues when stored or not started for more than a few weeks ? Had a hell of a time try to start mine, still working on it , apparently the oil drained out from the multi air bleeder valve. Working on it now. Luckily we have UA-cam for help.. What a shit design from the factory. There should have been some recall to get it fixed.
Mine has never gone more than 2 days without starting...lol What you are talking about is how the brick works. It isn't really something you can recall.
In Ohio we don't need the front plate holder. How do i get the plate holder off? Mine has got some weird looking like rivets.
Hard to say. They came without front plate holders attached. Somewhere along the way, someone added the one on your car.
Beautiful car! Was there a reason that the hood stripe and trunk stripe change orientation? Visually distinctive, but was that the only reason, to give judges something to question?
If you look at Itsy from the front, you see the colors of the Italian flag in the correct order. If you look at Itsy from the rear, you see the colors of the Italian flag from the correct order. That is the reason for the orientation change.
Thanks for puting up and making this excellent video! 🙏 Cleaned the drain holes for the first time after a year of ownership and it was a piece of cake thanks to you. There was hardly any dirt but its nice to know for piece of mind that everything is clean.
It really varies from car to car (and parking situations) how much debris is in them
i think the sequential side markers link is wrong
You are right. I just changed to the correct link. Thank you.
Ty for making this video. Been looking for a good vid!
you're welcome!
I just installed the same catch can as yours. Are you 100% sure the baffles should be on the “IN” side vs the “OUT” side? Basically the “IN” side is coming from the oil air separator and the “OUT” is going to the intake/turbo. You suggested the baffles are on the “IN” side of the catch can.
I flipped my baffles inside the can so the hoses would not run over each other.
I agree. But the baffles you said should be on the oil in side. Shouldn’t the baffles be on the air out side?
@@carll693 Seriously, it's been so long ago, I forget what the instruction said. I did it the way they said, but flipped sides. I've always seen the baffle on the IN side though.
Excellent video. I’ve been shopping for an NC Miata but came across a 2017 124 spider Classica. It has 120k miles on it but was a one owner who put like 23000 miles per year on it. It’s only $8500. I’m thinking about it but am concerned about the long term reliability of the Fiat engine. It’s super cheap compared to other 124s but seems like a legit car. I see your video was a few years ago. Do you still have the car? Curious about the engine long term reliability. I mean the rest of the car is basically a Miata and it was put together in Japan as you said.
The washers on the bolts are crush washers and should be replaced. Plug the fill hole immediately once it starts coming out.
Great video. Only 5500 km (3400 miles) on my 2018 Lusso so it will be awhile before I need to do this. Good camera work on a lot of the shots for good detail. Always good to have a young helper. I will definitely review this video when I need to change my rear end oil.
thank you.
Awesome video once again, I’ll have to do this to mine soon
thank you
How convenient, I need to do this soon.
Glad we could help!
Could you use a detailing spray after driving it to the show (if it’s only around a 30 minute drive) if you washed the car the night before? Or would that be too risky for getting swirling and marring?
Heck yeah. Detailing spray or waterless wash. Don't swirl your microfiber. Cross hatch.
My 124 Spider Abarth seems to burn oil when pushing hard. The exhaust tips are full of black carbon. Cleans off easy. When not pushing hard the tips stay clean. Do you think my oil separator is dirty? Do I need a catch can? Any advice would help as I believe you know what you’re talking about. I have 30,000 miles, it a 2017 manual transmission and I need to add 1 letter of oil every 1000 miles.
Are you sure you aren't driving an Audi?
Lots of good information and advice. I pay for and use premium synthetic oils and filters from your list for my 124 Lusso. I didn’t have your list then but it is good to know I am doing it right. Thanks for your research and work providing us with this information.
You're welcome. I am late doing my 2024 update :( Been very busy this year so far.
I have a 2018 Fiat 124 Lusso 6 speed manual. I have done cosmetic mods but my only mod so far on the engine is a turbo blanket mainly to reduce under hood temperatures. From all you videos on Go Pedal Plus that will be my next mod. Thanks for all those videos.
Its weird how much it adds to your vehicle's personality. You definitely feel the difference.
Where can I buy that sun cap on your display?
It is sold as a visor for the CX-3, MX-5 on amazon. Unfortunately, it looks better than it works. It seems the sun is rarely in a position where the visor can do its job.
Where did you get the phone holder?
We use the iOttie. I think it is available on Amazon or from Wal-Mart. I really like the way it allows me to position my phone exactly where i want it for driving.
@@DropTopTees Ok thanks, been looking for quite a while for a phone holder since there aren't many places to put one in the fiat.
I see a lot of the older 124s for sale under $6000 and they appear to be in good shape. I’m not a mechanic and don’t have a place to learn. Is it easy to find a good mechanic for these cars? Are parts readily available? They are a cool looking car. I prefer when the bumpers have been removed. Doesn’t sound like a very fast car but perhaps a fun car-kind of like the Miata.
Many parts are fairly easy to obtain. There are 4-5 companies that specialize in parts for vintage fiats, the 124 in particular. AS for good mechanics, it really depends on where you live. There are some absolutely fantastic mechanics out there for Fiats. There are also clubs like Fiat Club America filled with people who will gladly help other owners out on technical issues, mechanical advice, etc.
so, like 10 fiat spiders?
No. Many of them were hidden under the trees. Was in the upper 30s for moderns and ~20 vintage.
I just counted using the photo we take of each car as it enters thew show field: we had 37 modern 124s and 27 vintage 124s. 64 124s total. I think that is the most moderns so far for a Freakout Concorso. Also, some cars come to Freakout and do not go to the Concorso, so there may have been a few more of each at the Freakout.
I had a blast when I took my bone stock Abarth here! Hopefully you got to drive Cherohala Skyway, I'd argue that's more fun than the dragon!
I have heard a lot of people say that about the Cherohala. We didn't have time to drive that, but we did do Diamondback.
Would really like to see your run without time compression. It's a fun run - no need to save time! Would like to experience it with you, not just hear the music! Really hoping you show the full footage without time compression!
The problem is the vast number of viewers won't watch a road run that long. The goal of this video was to let people who have never driven the Dragon a chance to see what it is.
I respect that, but I would put myself in the category of wanting to see the whole thing. I just took my spider, Amelia, up to the tail for the first time with Fiat on the Dragon, and had so much fun! That’s why I’d love to see it - I could see how we both did on our first runs! In any case, glad you got to run it, and had a great time!
@@Agililord Definitely a fun road and with such little traffic, it was even better.
Don't really see what's so special about the 'tail of the dragon' road. Auto Amateur goes there in his Porsches and as a UK viewer this is just a standard country road. It doesn't have any views there are too many tight bends. Roads like this and much better are everywhere in the UK. I was in Wales UK yesterday in my Abarth 124 (go all the time) and the roads and scenery would blow these out of the water. It seems bizarre for me a country the size of the US and an average road like this can become a tourist attraction.
you are complaining about a road with "too many tight bends" and questioning why people want to drive it? Weird.
The attraction is the high number of turns in 11 miles. There are numerous other routes in this locale that, in my opinion, are better road runs. But this one is the most famous.
Can you give us some example roads? Would love to look at them and see what you get to drive in the UK.
@@Chilicharger665 Not questioning why people want to drive it, I'm questioning why such an un-impressive road is a tourist attraction in a country the size of the US. Also, if you drive sports cars a lot you would know that tight bends and having to change gear can get tiresome after a while.
@@DropTopTees There are literally 1000s of great roads in the UK. Any country road outside of a town or city will be a great driving road. Tourist roads are the A82 Glencoe, A5 Capel Curig, Cambrian Way, Llanberis Pass, Honister Pass, Hellfire Pass, Horseshoe Pass, Isle of Skye, Kirkstone Pass, etc. My personal favourites are the B4405 in Wales, The A493 Estuary Road Wales. ALL the roads that are in the National Parks are stunning. ua-cam.com/video/d8IMdfwjMUc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/OcsUUbM-0og/v-deo.html
Was hat der Wagen hinten auf den Kofferraumdeckel ?
Mein Fallschirmabzeichen von Special Operations in der USAF.
Any common issue you run in to these cars? Looking to get one soon but still debating my on the nd2 or abarth
The biggest issue will be getting body panels is someone hits you. FIAT is quite slow with those.
You made this look so easy I had to give it a shot. Worked like a charm. Thank you.
It is very easy!
By rolling prevents wrinkles.
Yep!
2018 Lusso here, with 8,500 miles. Can you elaborate on the 50k maintenance to date? Love the car, drove it north across the Mackinac Bridge this afternoon.
All I have done is routine scheduled maintenance.
Aye! This is dope, been watching you videos for about a month now. Didnt realize you were in DFW, i just got a 2017 Lusso last week and I’m loving it. Your videos have been a great help
Are you in the DFW area?
@@DropTopTees yes, i’m up here in Celina

hello, Since I also bought a Spider 124, I'm now excited to watch your videos. You made one for a diffuser from the company Hön in Germany. I just can't find this company. Do the 4c coil Pack fit on fiat Punto sporting 1.4 16v (188)?
I have no idea as Fiat has never sold the Punto in the US. :/
Just remove them. You don't need them and they block a large portion of your view. It's s convertible. You will more than likely be wearing a hat or sunglasses anyway.
Kind of an extreme option. I use mine depending on time of day and position of the sun.
@@DropTopTees i deleted mine bc i am just at the right height where i need the 1/15 of the windshield they obscure to see red lights without stopping 15-20 feet from the light... Very specific personal situation I know.

THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR THE INSTRUCTIONS CHANGED HEADLIGHTS
You're welcome.
Thx bro 🙏🏻
you're welcome
Question, when you installed your leds, did you clock the bulbs? The led chips should be at the three o'clock and 9 o'clock position. This helps tremendously with the beam pattern. Love your videos, very informative.
For people who might not understand what he is saying, it may seem counterintuitive, but modern headlights don't emit light directly down the road. Older headlamps simply projected light forward. As lighting became more refined, light bulbs started to project their light to the side, where it was focused by parabolic mirrors. Concentrating, shaping, and focusing the beam at specific distances down the road makes your headlights brightest where you need them to be. Halogens do this. Early LED replacements for halogens, especially the cheaper ones, frequently failed to place the emitters where they would best take advantage of the mirror effect built into the head lamp assembly. Most LEDs on the market today have the LED emitters aligned properly to most effectively reflect their light down the highway, so aligning the emitters is no longer the issue it used to be.
Was thinking of getting one till you mentioned the poorer reception!
It doesn't have bad reception. It is just, on this car, it isn't quite as strong as the original antenna. If you are mostly in city or near it, you won't notice a difference.
@@DropTopTees I live in British Columbia and we have mountains etc.
@felix1470 you are so right with mountains. With regular antenna you loose signal on the Malahat. I switch to music Bluetooth off my iPad mini in those situations. Otherwise around Victoria plus north of Malahat reception isn’t bad. Likely north of Vancouver on sea to sky would be awful though.
